Hitherto, it has not yet been done well because both of poor wetting property of LBE with stainless steels and poor performance of supersonic probes at high temperatures. Measurement was made for a return flow in the target model, which has coaxially arranged annular and tube channels. The electromagnetic pump generates LBE flow and the flow rate was measured by the electromagnetic flow meter. Measurement results show that re-circulation occurred near the surface of beam window, which might affect a heat transfer of target container.

The Fusion Neutronics Source (FNS) of Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute has started microanalysis studies for fusion components since 2002 by applying the beam analyses. In this study, we have measured tritium depth profiles of TFTR tiles exposed to the deuterium-tritium plasma to reveal the hydrogen isotope behavior at the surface region using some microscopic techniques for material analyses at FNS. As the result of the deuteron nuclear reaction analysis, four kinds of elements; deuterium, tritium, lithium-6 and lithium-7, were identified from the energy spectra. Using the spectra, depth profiles of each element were also calculated. The tritium profile had a peak at 0.5 micron, whereas the deuterium and lithium profiles were uniform from the surface to 1.0 micron depth. In addition, the surface region of the TFTR tile has retained the tritium more than one order of magnitude in the bulk.

The photo neutralization method with Nd:YAG laser for negative hydrogen ions has been expected as an available candidate for the transverse beam profile measurement. The fraction of photo detached electron can also be used for charge exchange procedure to extract very low power proton beam for Transmutation Experimental Facility in J-PARC. The laser system has advantages of maintenance and radiation hardness in high intensity proton accelerators. In order to establish the low power beam extraction system and beam profile monitor, the photo neutralization efficiency must be surveyed in practical beam line with high intensity H beam. In this paper, an experimental set-up and preliminary results of photo neutralization method for intense H beam in J-PARC MEBT1 are described.

The dose responses relative to those for low LET radiations are almost one up to about 10 MeV/(mg/cm) and gradually become smaller with increase of the stopping power. Overall uncertainty in ion beam dosimetry using these characterized dosimeters is better than 5%(1) including uncertainty in fluence measurement(2%). Lateral and depth dose profile measurements were achievable using characterized Gafchromic dosimeters with the spatial resolution of better than 1 and 10 m, respectively.

It is important to monitor the proton beam for the high intensity pulse spallation target. Especially for the beam halo, which may irradiate the bulk surrounding the target, it is important to be observed to prevent causing heat spot in the shielding bulk. At JSNS, a proton beam monitors are located at front of the target. These monitors are assembled with the proton beam window. Since this scheme increases the radiation on the monitor due to the beam loss at the windows, it may arise heat deposition on the monitor. Therefore, heat deposition is calculated with NMTC/JAM. It is found that the heat deposition for normal operation is less than 0.1 W/cc.
